Together, we immersed ourselves in the world of Papel Picado, a traditional Mexican paper art whose intricate garlands accompany celebrations and, moving in the wind, speak of transience, memory, and remembrance.
Using recycled paper we created our own garlands while exploring the stories, cultural meanings, and techniques behind this craft. The paper scraps produced during the cutting process were then transformed into new material through papermaking, creating a creative cycle in which paper continuously changes its form and is given new life.
The workshop was led in collaboration with Tom Semmelroth and took place at the GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts in Leipzig as part of the exhibition The Soul of Objects, as well as at the Glasfabrik Leipzig.
